Dr. Shelley Janiczek Woodson
I take a positive approach to counseling and view the work I do more as personal consultation than as "therapy." To me, the clients with whom I work are simply normal people in abnormal situations or circumstances. Rather than focusing on client problems, I focus on client preferences and possibilities. The work I do is aimed at assisting clients in thriving, not just surviving. That is why I chose to specialize in sleep science. I help clients get good, quality sleep so that they can really enjoy life!
I invite you to come and visit with me at my office in Granby (near the South Hadley line), sit and have a cup of coffee or tea in a comfortable, private setting, and see whether we might work together to improve the quality of your life.
TRAINING. Regarding my training and education, I have been working with a diverse group of clients, with a wide range of difficulties, in a number of settings, for over 20 years. I have worked with clients in private practice, community mental health clinics in three states, college counseling centers, pre-school, primary and secondary schools, group homes, forensic settings, and inpatient psychiatric units.
I have also taught, written extensively, and conducted scientific research for over 25 years. I am proud of the students I have taught and the clinicians I have had the privilege of training and supervising over the years. I have taught a variety of college Social Science courses, from Abnormal Psychology to Sleep and Dreams, a course I designed myself. I have authored much scientific material including journal articles, book chapters, and test banks. My new book is entitled, "A Clinician's Guide to Sleep."
I earned a Bachelor's and Master’s degree in Psychology from the University of Central Oklahoma. I completed an APA (American Psychological Association) approved pre-doctoral internship at Counseling and Assessment Services at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. I earned a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Texas Tech University.
I am a Licensed Psychologist and Health Service Provider. I am also an adjunct professor, researcher, author, and expert in the field of sleep science and gender-variant children.
